The Life Store is here to help, support and give guidance to all aspects to women's health, from advising you on changing your lifestyle for the better to if you need to speak to someone about cancer. The first Wednesday of every month we have the bowel cancer screening service in the store should you need to speak to a specialist about this subject. We also work closely with The Albert Centre, which helps you deal with issues around alcohol and substance misuse, and will offer counselling and advice. You can be referred by your GP, friend or family member or you can contact them directly yourself, or call into the Life Store for more confidential information.
The Audiology department who are based at James Cook Hospital are in the Life Store every Monday and Friday Morning between 9.30am and 12noon for hearing aid repairs. This is a drop-in clinic, no appointment necessary. Hearing aid batteries are available in the Life Store Monday through to Saturday.
The Life Store can give you advice on why it is important for women to have a smear test. Call into the store and pick up a leaflet about Frequently Asked Questions about smear tests. We also offer information on vaccinations against cervical cancer (HPV).
We can also signpost you to our Community Weight Management service. Together we'll help you lose weight, and it's free. We have two programmes available. Shape Up is a friendly group support self help programme that helps you manage your weight. L.E.A.N. is a convenient drop-in service that will support you to achieve realistic goals in order to make lifestyle changes.
If you suffer from a long-term medical condition try our new service called Staywell, which you may find useful. Staywell is a new education programme for patients and their carers. If you have diabetes or care for someone with the condition this programme teaches you more about how to keep your diabetes under control and avoid complications. Staywell COPD can help you manage this condition. Staywell 75 is for over 75 year olds, or if you care for someone over 75, Staywell will provide guidance on how to stay fit, healthy and independent.
